Maps

In hotels and travel agencies you are given a miniature one-page map - a highly unsatisfactory one. The ideal solution depends on your aims and status.

The Best Map for the One-weekend Conference Tourist Who Wants to Get Away for a Short While

Budapest : the inner part ( Budapest belso terüülete) Inside the not very attractive, ever changing cover there is a very practical, easy-to-use map. The back shows the inner city areas in such detail that even the numbers of the buildings are indicated at corners of the streets. (Scale: 1:7500!) There is a comprehensive street index for both sides of the map.

The Best Map for a Couple Staying Downtown But Who Want to Discover the City for Themselves on Foot

Budapest "Falk" A regular but beautifully printed map which you can unfold at home and leaf through in the street. It shows the structure of the city very clearly. The inset map shows such a small area that it is almost useless. Full street index. Attracts muggers.

Map for a Young Couple from Ukraine on Honeymoon,Who are Staying with Relatives in the Outskirts

The Map of Budapest A map showing the whole city with the districts in different colours - which is sometimes helpful even to a foreign visitor. All tram and bus routes are indicated. Full index. Includes a very well designed inset map of the centre.

Map for a Serious, Lonely Traveller Who Swapped His Turin Flat for an Elegant Home Near City Park

Euro City Budapest A red, spiral-bound booklet, very clearly and cleverly designed, somewhat expensive, though. It must have been designed far from Budapest - it covers a very large area of Pest, but very little of Buda. Full, easy-to-read index.

Map for the Business Traveller Who Wants to Find NewPremises for His/Her Central European Headquarters

The Atlas of Budapest A large-format, spiral-bound book, covering 28 areas around the city. The scale is 1:20000, (Sections 8-81, and 1:10000 in the inner city parts). With street numbers and one-way indication. There is a haystack of soulless information, not really of much use, at the back of the book. Also easy to use, quite large print, full index.

Map for an Architecture Freak Who Wants to Visit Every Single Address in the 'For Serious Addicts' Part of This Book
Cartographia's Budapest (in a transparent plastic folder) Basically a brand new, locally edited version of the Falk map, simply printed as a traditional flat map (i.e. you cannot leaf through it). A separate section details the metro system. Full index on the back. Landmark buildings in primitive but useful 3-D drawings.
